Fighting Aids Was Bright Spot Of Bush Presidency
In 2002, Bush has helped to launch the Global Fund to fight against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, to which the United States is the largest single contributor, and in 2003 established the President Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), focusing on 15 countries, mainly in Africa. Much of the President George W Bush legacy in May under withering fire, but in an area at least, will be welcomed: his contribution to the fight against AIDS. By yanking open the financial spigot, experts say, Bush has reversed years of retreat in the war against the acquired immune deficiency syndrome, and led to the de facto apartheid between rich and poor in access to lifesaving medicines.
